Beethoven’s beautiful and much-loved ‘Pathétique’ sonata sits alongside his painful realisation of ever-increasing deafness. Op 14 No 1 is an expansive and lyrical work dedicated to Baroness Josefa von Braun. The expressive final movement of Op 110 contains the deeply moving ‘Klagender Gesang’ (tearful song).
