LSO St Luke's
BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert: Nicholas Angelich
LSO St Luke's Tenth Birthday Festival
Overview

Nicholas Angelich
RAVEL Oiseaux tristes from ‘Miroirs’
RAVEL Valses nobles et sentimentales
MUSSORGSKY Pictures at an Exhibition
Nicholas Angelich piano
Miroirs reveal the ambiances evoked as Ravel’s friends and acquaintances gaze into a mirror. Ravel’s Valses nobles et sentimentales were first greeted by boos and cat calls from an audience who were unnerved by their striking dissonances. Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition musically re-imagines some of the paintings at the exhibition of his late friend Victor Hartmann, including a shrieking gnome, an old castle and a bone-grinding witch.
