LSO Discovery Day: Sir Peter Maxwell Davies
Immerse yourself in the life and music of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, including access to the morning rehearsal of Symphony No 10 with Sir Antonio Pappano, a conversation with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and guest presenter BBC Radio 3’s Sara Mohr-Pietsch, and chamber music with LSO musicians.
10am-1pm, Barbican Hall
Join Sir Antonio Pappano in a morning rehearsal, including Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ new work - Symphony No 10 with the LSO, LSC and soloist Markus Butter (baritone). The morning rehearsal will also feature Elgar’s In the South and Britten’s Violin Concerto with soloist Maxim Vengerov.
Unlike Open Rehearsals, as part of the Discovery Day experience, audience members have the opportunity to observe the conductor and Orchestra from the Stalls, giving a unique and more intimate insight into the workings of an LSO rehearsal.*
2.30-5pm, Jerwood Hall, LSO St Luke’s
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies joins BBC Radio 3 broadcaster Sara Mohr-Pietsch to discuss his new work. LSO violinists David Worswick and Maxine Kwok-Adams and LSO pianist John Alley present a programme of chamber music including Maxwell Davies' Farewell to Stromness and Yesnaby Ground (for solo piano), Darren Bloom's Chaconne (for solo violin), Scarlatti's Sonatas (for two violins) arranged by David Worswick, Schnittke's A Paganini.
