The LSO was saddened to hear of the death of conductor and composer Péter Eötvös on 24 March. The LSO shared a longstanding and fruitful collaboration with Péter Eötvös, performing numerous concerts with him, both in London and on tour, over the years. The programmes for these concerts embodied his artistic vision and spirit of innovation, showcasing contemporary composers, including Helmut Lachenmann, Pierre Boulez and others.

Péter Eötvös followed in the footsteps of composers such as Béla Bartók, György Ligeti and György Kurtág, becoming one of the most esteemed Hungarian composers. To honour his memory, the LSO, under the baton of François-Xavier Roth, will perform Eötvös’ Per Luciano Berio at the LSO’s concert on 7 April, marking the piece’s UK premiere. Through this performance, we pay homage to Eötvös’ impact on contemporary music and his profound influence on the musical landscape.
