Elisabeth Leonskaja piano
Together with Op 49 No 1, No 2 forms the second of Beethoven’s Leichte Sonaten. Op 109 sees his writing at its most intensely personal and introspective. His final piano sonata, Op 111, is composed of entirely contrasting moods and structures which come together to create what Beethoven felt to be a true unity of form. Because of the sonata’s unexpected two-movement structure, his publisher was convinced a final third movement must have been lost in the post.
