In 1722, J S Bach composed his Well-Tempered Clavier, a collection of preludes and fugues that traverses each of the 24 major and minor keys. Over two centuries later, inspired by Bach’s original masterpiece, Shostakovich followed suit with his own collection, which is peppered with quotations from Bach’s cycle. This concert brings together selected preludes and fugues from both.
