Beethoven’s Variations trace the development of a simple opening theme through 14 stages, encompassing minor-key slow sections, song-like melodies and lively interplay between the instruments. The ‘Archduke’ Trio is considered his masterpiece in the genre, and was dedicated to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, one of his closest friends and patrons.
