Piano Concerto No 20, Mozart didn’t even have time to play through the last movement because he was transcribing it right up until the start of the concert. Fellow composer Robert Schumann said delightedly to his wife upon discovering Schubert’s Symphony No 9 that he had ‘found a symphony of heavenly length’. Lasting over an hour, its first performance in London was spread over seven days!
