‘One of the most exhilarating musical experiences of my life to date’
2011 masterclass participant
At present there are no plans to hold another Conducting workshop in the near future. Any further information will appear here when it becomes available.
Those interested in the conducting workshops may like to consider applying for the Donatella Flick LSO Conducting competition - link below.
Previously, three young conductors have been selected to work with the London Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of LSO conductors. The three aspiring professionals conduct the LSO for one third of a three hour orchestral session.
For the 2013 masterclass we were delighted that Principal Guest Conductor of the LSO, Michael Tilson Thomas, joined the orchestra on Sunday 2 June 2013 at LSO St Luke’s.
Repertoire for the masterclass was Britten Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, and movements from Copland Short Symphony No 2, and Shostakovich Symphony No 5.
The three conductors are Fergus MacLeod, George Jackson and Edward Farmer.
‘Meeting the LSO and Gergiev was simply the best musical experience I’ve ever had.’
Ewa Strusinska, 2008
Past Masterclasses: 2012
The three aspiring professionals, Gergely Madaras, James Ham and Marcio da Silva, took part in a public masterclass with Sir Colin Davis on Thursday 22 March 2012 at LSO St Luke’s. The conductors observed Sir Colin rehearsing with the LSO before meeting him to discuss the repertoire chosen for the masterclass and their specific approach.
Repertoire for the masterclass was Beethoven Leonore Overture No 2, and Nielsen Symphony No 2 movements 1 and 3.
