LSO Discovery Day: Sofia Gubaidulina
Find out more about Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina’s life and music as the LSO celebrates her 80th birthday.
10am-1pm, Barbican Hall*
Join Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra as they rehearse Gubaidulina’s In tempus praesens with violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, as well as Shostakovich’s Symphony No 10. Unlike our Open Rehearsals, as part of the Discovery Day experience, audience members have the opportunity to observe the conductor and Orchestra from the Stalls, giving a unique and more intimate insight into the workings of an LSO rehearsal.
1.15-2pm, Barbican Hall
LSO Principal Second Violin will be joined in conversation by tonight’s soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
3-4pm, Jerwood Hall, LSO St Luke’s
LSO Principals David Alberman and Tim Hugh perform Gubaidulina’s Rejoice! for violin and cello, which will be introduced by David Alberman.
4.30-5.30pm, Jerwood Hall, LSO St Luke’s
A unique opportunity to view Jan Schmidt-Garre’s film Sophia – Biography of a Violin Concerto, which documents the creation of In tempus praesens through shadowing and interviewing Gubaidulina and Mutter from concept to the first performance of the work.
*Please note that the conductor may choose to not use the full rehearsal time and we cannot guarantee that equal rehearsal time will be given to each piece.
Tickets: £16 (£12.50 concessions). Afternoon from 2.30pm: £10 (no concessions)
