A chamber group of LSO players celebrate Steve Reich’s 75th birthday with a selection of his 20th-century minimalist classics. Different Trains arose from Steve Reich’s reminiscences of wartime train trips across America and his realisation that had he been in Europe, his Jewish heritage would have placed him on very ‘different’ trains. Intense and moving in equal measure, it possesses a rhythmic force that also manifests itself in Reich’s pioneering Violin Phase.
