In Three Movements, Steve Reich binds orchestra and conductor together in complete unison with a mesmerising metronomic power. This intense rhythmic pulse beats throughout the whole concert, with the energetic vocals of The Desert Music creating a haunting atmosphere. Clapping Music features just two musicians and their hands, reflecting Reich’s desire to ‘create a piece of music that needed no instruments beyond the human body’.
