From Rawhide and High Noon to Cyrano de Bergerac and The Alamo, Dimitri Tiomkin’s film soundtracks, for which he won four Oscars, conjure up the wide open plains, ten-gallon Stetsons and the quick draw of a Smith & Wesson like no others. But in more than 100 films Tiomkin underscored nearly every genre: drama, comedy, film noir, adventure, war documentary; bringing them all vividly to life. Tonight’s concert celebrates the breadth of one of Hollywood’s most distinguished composers.
