Ukrainian-born pianist Valentina Lisitsa has a huge online following and is one of the most frequently viewed pianists on YouTube. Here she makes her debut with the LSO in Prokofiev’s fearsomely difficult Second Piano Concerto. Chinese-born conductor Xian Zhang, currently Music Director of the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan, opens the programme with one of Verdi’s best-known overtures and ends with two pieces inspired by the vibrant traditions of Spain.
