Elizabeth Pigram
First Violin
Member since 1988
‘My mother was an amateur pianist (in fact she won a competition and performed a short concerto with the LSO as a child), hence I began with the piano. The violin was offered in school and by 13, playing Rachmaninoff Symphony No 2 with the Hampshire Youth Orchestra, I had resolved that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.’
Elizabeth Pigram (born Greaves) was the ninth woman to join the LSO in 1988, and the first ever to be appointed to the Second Violin section (number four chair). She has been an R&F First Violin for the last 30 years, during which time she enjoyed a three-year term on the LSO Board. She is also Leader of the Apollo Chamber Orchestra, with whom she has played many concertos and solos over the years, and is a regular member of the Roman River Festival based in East Anglia, where she lives with her husband and three children. Liz is a frequent and enthusiastic participant in LSO Discovery projects of all kinds.
