José Teixeira
Bass Trombone, Royal College of Music
Portuguese bass trombonist José Teixeira is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, studying under James Buckle, Byron Fulcher, Paul Milner, and Peter Smith.
During his undergraduate studies at RCM, José secured 1st place in the British Trombone Society’s Trombone Choir Competition with the RCM Trombone Choir in 2023. He also earned an honorable mention in the International Trombone Association’s Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition in 2024. Back in Portugal, he won 3rd place in the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral Chamber Competition in 2017. Additionally, José participated in the BBC Symphony Orchestra Scheme in 2022, under the mentorship of Dan Jenkins, and took part in the English National Opera Evolve Scheme in 2023.
José’s dedication has been recognised through various scholarships. He has been a Robert Anderson Music Resident since 2020, a Royal College of Music Scholar in 2024, a Drake Calleja Trust Scholar in 2024, and a London Symphony Orchestra Conservatoire Scholar in 2024.
His growing career includes collaborations with notable orchestras such as the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, Southbank Sinfonia, Symphonica Orchestra, and Orion Orchestra.
