Music in the Classroom

LSO Discovery Music CPD for Primary teachers aims to develop confidence and strategies for using music in the classroom, focusing on a creative approach to music-making.

LSO Discovery offer a variety of training opportunities for Primary teachers from one-off Creative Days to our year-long Music in the Classroom programme. Find out more about our CPD activities below, and join us to keep music in the classroom.

Free online CPD sessions

Join LSO Discovery and our Music hub partners on Zoom for a free creative music CPD workshop for KS2 teachers working in East London*, led by LSO Animateur Rachel Leach and a musician from the London Symphony Orchestra. This free online workshop will provide you with practical ideas you can use straight away to make music in the classroom with your pupils, regardless of your musical or teaching experience. 

*you must work for a school or music service in the LSO On Track partner boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Greenwich, Hackney, Havering, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest. We are not able to give places to teachers from independent schools for this workshop.

Monday 5 July, 4.30pm-6.30pm: co-hosted with Hackney Music

What is being offered?
After-school one-off music-making workshop for teachers working in East London, taking place on Zoom.

Who is it for?
These free workshops are open to East London* Primary teachers in mainstream and special education, teaching assistants and other school and music service staff, regardless of musical or teaching experience. We are not able to offer places to teachers from independent schools.

Music in the Classroom is a year-long hands-on programme for Primary teachers and pupils in East London, regardless of musical or teaching experience. 

We are currently accepting applications for the 2021-22 programme.

Creative Days

Led by LSO Animateur Rachel Leach and LSO musicians, LSO Discovery’s day-long workshops at LSO St Luke’s equip primary school teachers and other staff teaching music with the skills to use a creative and hands-on approach to classical music making in the classroom.
