Singing Days

For all ages over 16

LSO Singing Days provide an exciting opportunity to get to grips with classic and iconic choral works.

The sessions are led by experienced choral directors such as Simon Halsey (London Symphony Chorus Director) and David Lawrence (LSO Community Choir conductor). The days start with singing workshops followed by an informal performance, accompanied by piano, to friends and family.

'Simon gave such an insight into the work. It was so inspiring!'
Participant, Brahms Singing Day

For our Choral Singing Days, the focus is on the vocal repertoire of the LSO and London Symphony Chorus in the Barbican season, and for which some sight-singing ability is required.

For our Community Singing Days, you do not need any previous experience in singing or sight-reading. You just need to be willing to give singing a shot! Members of the London Symphony Chorus are always on hand to help out if you are feeling less sure about the music.

'Simon creates a very positive, energetic atmosphere in which to work and learn, and paced the day brilliantly to the level and ability.'
Participant, Brahms Singing Day

Family Concerts

Suitable for ages 7 to 12

Once a term, three times a year, the LSO presents a Family Concert in the Barbican Hall featuring the full London Symphony Orchestra.

Presented in a fun and informative way, the concerts feature music based on a theme and offer the chance for everyone to get involved by playing or singing along with the audience participation piece.

There are various exciting workshops in the Barbican foyers which take place during the morning of and just before each concert. These differ for each concert but you’ll always get the opportunity to meet LSO players and take part in musical activities.

Bring your instrument if you have one!

We also provide a crèche for use during the concert for younger siblings. Those with children under the age of 7 are encouraged to use the crèche, and must book places in advance.

Early Years Workshops

Shake, Rattle and Roll!

Music workshops for babies and under 5s

Interactive, creative, and fun – our Monday morning music sessions for early years are a great way to introduce your little ones to the world of music making.

You and your little ones are invited to move and groove along, explore new sounds and songs, and get up close to the instruments of the orchestra.

With no more than 15 children in a group, your child will receive individual attention as well as taking part in whole group activities.

We are now introducing a new workshop for parents and babies from new-born to 4 months. This workshop is designed especially to enhance the connection between parent and baby during this exciting, yet challenging time. The sessions will include singing, listening, relaxing and anything else that could help you during these early stages. You will also get the chance to meet other parents and chat through your experiences without day-to-day life getting in the way.

Crawlers to Climbers (aged 1 - 2): 10–10.45am
Toddlers to Tinkers (aged 2 - 4): 11–11.45am
Wrigglers to Rollers (newborns - up to 4 months): 12–12.45pm

Click here for further information on our new class.

Booking

Due to the popularity of these classes, we operate a lottery booking system, choosing a total of 15 applicants at random, for each age group.

Please note, priority will be given to those who have applied for the previous two consecutive terms, but were not successful in obtaining a place.

Before booking, please ensure you will be able to attend the morning slot you have chosen.

Cost: £100 for the term (10 sessions at £10 per session including VAT)
