Beethoven’s first symphony is the composer’s first exploration of a genre, which we would radically transform over his lifetime changing the course of music history forever. Witty and elegant, there are moments which foretell the bold, stormy moments that would follow in his later symphonies, such as the opening for the First’s finale.
Discover engaging insights as composer, conductor and regular LSO collaborator Thomas Adès introduces this performance, and leads the Orchestra in a piece brimming with passion and feeling.
