John Adams - A Timeline

Early next year, John Adams will celebrate his 70th birthday. In honour of the occasion, the LSO are performing two of his most outstanding pieces. 

On Sunday 4 and Thursday 8 December, the LSO will be celebrating the 70th birthday of American composer John Adams, with the composer himself conducting the LSO over two spectacular evenings.

He will be performing his nativity oratorio El Niño on Sunday 4 December, a telling of that first Christmas drawing on new perspectives from Biblical texts and Latin American Poetry. A performance of Scheherazade.2, a reimagining of the heroine from Arabian Nights as a woman fighting for her rights in the present day, with be brought to life by its dedicatee, American violinist Leila Josefowicz on Thursday 8 December.

The London Symphony Orchestra performs El Niño on 4 December and Scheherazade.2 on 8 December at the Barbican centre, with guest conductor John Adams. 

Guests for El Niño include Joélle Harvey, Jennifer Johnson Cano, Daniel Bubeck, Brian Cummings, Nathan Medley, Davóne Tines, the London Symphony Chorus and London Youth Choir. 

Violinist Leila Josefowicz will perform Scheherazade.2.
