Press release: recognition in 2017 New Year's Honours List for LSO Violinist Lennox Mackenzie

Lennox Mackenzie, sub-leader and former Chairman of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), has been awarded an OBE for services to music in the New Year’s Honours List 2017, following 37 years as an LSO violinist, and 16 years served as the Orchestra’s Chairman.

Jonathan Dove's The Monster in the Maze wins a British Composer Award

Jonathan Dove's community opera The Monster in the Maze has won a British Composer Award in the Amateur or Youth Performers category. The award from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) was presented at a ceremony at the BFI in London last night.

We are delighted that the latest work for our award-winning site LSO Play, Shostakovich Symphony No 5, is now available to watch online. The performance is conducted by LSO Conductor Laureate Michael Tilson Thomas and was recorded at the Barbican Hall in March 2015.

Niklas Benjamin Hoffmann wins the 14th Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition

The winner of the 14th Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition is the 26-year-old German conductor Niklas Benjamin Hoffmann. His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent presented Niklas Hoffmann with the award tonight, following a public concert in which the London Symphony Orchestra was conducted by three finalists at London’s Barbican Hall.
