Niklas Benjamin Hoffmann wins the 14th Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition


The winner of the 14th Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition is the 26-year-old German conductor Niklas Benjamin Hoffmann. His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent presented Niklas Hoffmann with the award tonight, following a public concert in which the London Symphony Orchestra was conducted by three finalists at London’s Barbican Hall.

Obituary: George Reynolds (1938–2016)


The LSO is saddened to hear of the death on Friday 11 November 2016 of George Reynolds. George was a valued member of the LSO Trumpet section from 1963 to 1978 during which time he travelled with the Orchestra all over the world including on the Diamond Jubilee World Tour in 1964.

Obituary: Sir Neville Marriner (1924–2016)


The London Symphony Orchestra is saddened to hear of the death of Sir Neville Marriner who passed away on 2 October 2016 at the age of 92. Originally a violinist, Sir Neville went on to found the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and a number of other chamber orchestras around the world, becoming one of this country’s most highly regarded conductors.
