The LSO is saddened to hear of the death of former Co-Principal Double Bass (1978–1988) Paul Marrion on 16 June 2019.

Paul was born in Manchester. At 19 he was appointed Sub Principal of the Ulster Orchestra, and joined the Scottish National Orchestra as Principal Double Bass in the 1970s before becoming LSO Co-Principal Double Bass for ten years from 1978 to 1988. In 1993 he took up the position of Principal Double Bass with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, retiring to Scotland in 2012.
