Alina Ibragimova wins 2019 RPS Instrumentalist Award

Congratulations to Alina Ibragimova who has been awarded the 2019 RPS Instrumentalist Award.

The panel describes her as ‘a world champion of breath-taking artistry and integrity, both individual and mercurial’.

We are thrilled that Alina will appear in both our BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime concert series at LSO St Luke's and at the Barbican Centre with Nathalie Stutzmann in January 2020.

Other winners and nominees

Sophia Gubaidulina was presented the RPS Gold Award.

She says ‘This award is especially precious because it comes as we are preparing to celebrate the 250th birthday of Beethoven. To that great composer belongs the merit of affirming in his work the love of harmony – which is the true meaning of the word ‘Philharmonic’. Let us hope that this may be a unique moment in the history of music – when growth for all mankind can really be achieved through works of art. I am infinitely grateful to the Royal Philharmonic Society for the honour that I have been shown.’

Katharina Konradi and the Trio Gaspard will perform her work Letter to the Poetess Rimma Dalos in our BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime concert series.

François Xavier Roth was nominated for the Conductor award. As the LSO's Principal Guest Conductor you can see him at several concerts this year, where he is focusing particularly on the music of Bartók.
