This concert follows an LSO Discovery Day (10am–5.30pm) at the Barbican & LSO St Luke’s, with a focus on Robert Schumann. Participants will learn about his life and music, and the day includes access to the morning rehearsal at the Barbican and an afternoon of insights from experts. On Monday 12 January Rattle and the LSO perform Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri at the Luxembourg Philharmonie Hall with the same cast. Sir Simon Rattle and the LSO return to the Barbican on Thursday 15 January for a concert featuring Webern’s Six Pieces, Berg’s Three Fragments from ‘Wozzeck’ and Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre with soprano Barbara Hannigan, and Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. This concert will be broadcast at a later date on the cable and satellite channel, Mezzo.

Ahead of the Barbican concert, Ticciati and the LSO will perform the programme in Vienna on Thursday 22 January and Linz on the Friday 23 January. The Vienna concert is part of Ticcati’s major residency project at Vienna's Konzerthaus, which will also feature the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
