Press Release: LSO streams Verdi Requiem live from the Barbican

London Symphony Orchestra streams Verdi's Requiem live from London's Barbican with its new Principal Guest Conductor, Gianandrea Noseda.

18 September 2016

The London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its new Principal Guest Conductor Gianandrea Noseda, will perform Verdi’s Requiem in the Barbican Hall on Sunday 18 September, opening the Orchestra’s 2016/17 London season. For the first time, the entire concert will be streamed live on the Orchestra’s YouTube channel, completely free, preceded by an insightful pre-concert programme from backstage at the Barbican on the LSO’s Facebook page.

Kathryn McDowell, Managing Director of the LSO, said: ‘I am delighted that Gianandrea Noseda’s first concert as Principal Guest Conductor will be enjoyed by a whole new online audience in this first for the LSO. We are always looking for new ways to draw in new audiences, whether that is working in schools, giving our free, annual concert in Trafalgar Square, or with initiatives such as this live stream which will be the first of many that will see the LSO’s work enjoyed by many thousands around the world.’

Gianandrea Noseda conducts a stellar line-up of soloists for the performance of Verdi’s Requiem, with soprano Erika Grimaldi, mezzo-soprano Daniela Barcellona, tenor Francesco Meli and baritone Michele Pertusi performing alongside the London Symphony Chorus for two London performances on 18 and 20 September, and at New York’s Lincoln Center in October.

Before the live stream begins on 18 September, Rachel Leach will present a live backstage pre-show programme, featuring interviews with members of the London Symphony Orchestra, Gianandrea Noseda, and members of the London Symphony Chorus.

The concert is generously supported by Reignwood.
