On 26 September 2016 we celebrated 50 years of community spirit, with an afternoon of teas, building tours, performances, singing and a procession to St Giles’ for a celebratory service.
Here are a few photos from the day:

We asked people to share their memories of St Luke’s with us on the day.

Clockwise from top right:
‘My mum used to wheel me around the church to get to the market.’
Kathy Cobb, St Luke’s Community Centre
‘I was lonely and no family but I joined St Giles since May 2015. I have my society now. Thank you.’

‘They took the organ to pieces…laid that in the west aisle. That was there for ages until they got going.’
Mollie Munn
‘So the church has not died, the life of the church has not died. It’s found a new location.’
Rev Rumens, St Giles Cripplegate
‘Many years ago I came here for Sunday School. I loved it, collecting stamps for my Sunday School book. Mollie Munn has not changed a bit.’
Janet Downs
‘When I moved here it was a transforming ruin. It was being rebuilt.’
Rev Rumens, St Giles Cripplegate
‘Thank you for a wonderful event.’
Pamela & Stan
‘Reverend Rogers came in the June and lost his church in the December.’
Mollie Munn
‘I remember it being bombed and it had no roof.’
Kathy Cobb, St Luke’s Community Centre
‘Sunday Mrs Hazel love to hear the singing. I would not get any reaction from her but when the singing starts she would look up to where the choir was. Thanks to all.’
‘David Rhodes, ex-rector of St Giles, said that he had sold St Luke’s to the LSO for 1p, yes, one pence!’
