Learn more about our Discovery Choirs.
There is something Gifted to every member, whether it be confidence and experience; something to look forward to every Monday; the chance to find friends and like-minded people; the opportunity to regularly perform in venues such as the Barbican Hall, as we are doing today; or simply the joy felt while singing song. – Poppy Dawid, LSO Discovery Senior Choir
LSO Connect
LSO Connect is a new programme of activity supporting older adults in our local community who are affected the most by isolation and loneliness. Working in partnership with local organisation Help on Your Doorstep, St Luke’s Community Centre and Claremont Project, LSO musicians bring older adults together to forge connections and make music. Each year we hold 24 engaging workshops enabling members to share stories, create and perform music in a positive, creative and kind environment.
The project has been really terrific, you know. It shows that there are treasures to be had, even when things are bad. If you keep your courage and just go forward, and keep pushing on. I never dreamt I could do this. – LSO Connect Participant
Music in Hospitals
LSO Musicians and Workshop leaders provide relaxation and respite from the hospital environment to NHS staff, older patients and young children and their visitors. Every year, the LSO reaches over 900 staff, patients and visitors helping to bring comfort and create moments of serenity.
The regular visits by musicians to the ward lift the spirits of patients, staff and visitors. We staff have so few opportunities to offer our older patients a break from routine, and this is truly wonderful. – Consultant Geriatrician, Newham University Hospital
