Kick-start your evening with a Half Six Fix concert. One piece in a 60-minute concert, introduced by the performers, with screens in the hall to bring you closer to the action.
The Programme
Absorb Prokofiev’s wistful final symphony in the relaxed atmosphere of this early-evening concert, conducted and introduced by Gianandrea Noseda.
The Seventh Symphony was commissioned by the Soviet state radio for children. But while it recalls treasured memories of the composer’s youth, this final symphony contains a deeper message of farewell.
It begins with yearning strings, summons childhood with flute and glockenspiel, remembers happy times in a whirling waltz, and ends with the tick-tock of the composer’s beating heart. The symphony was premiered in October 1952; Prokofiev would die in March 1953, on the same day as Stalin.
The Performers
Principal Guest Conductor Gianandrea Noseda and the LSO have earned rave reviews for their exploration of Prokofiev’s symphonies. Join them for this majestic next instalment.
I wish you at least another hundred years to live and create. Listening to such works as your Seventh Symphony makes it much easier and more joyful to live.’ – Shostakovich to Prokofiev in 1952
Filming
Please note that there will be filming taking place in the hall and around the Barbican pre and post concert. Part of this filming will be getting audience reactions after the concert so if you would like to share your experience on camera do come find us on Level G, around Door 6.
If you have any concerns, or would like to be excluded from any photography/filming, please speak to a member of staff on the day or email tickets@lso.co.uk at least 48 hours before the concert.
