Hailed for the intelligence, soulfulness and passion of his playing, Danish-Israeli violinist Nicolaj Znaider is a great favourite with LSO audiences. His contribution to this amazing festival of violin playing is the Tchaikovsky Concerto, one of the peaks of the violin repertoire, and one to which Znaider will bring all three characteristics. Valery Gergiev teams it with an orchestral arrangement of Balakirev’s virtuoso piano fantasy Islamey and Shostakovich’s enigmatic final symphony, a summation of his life’s work.
