Shakespeare-400

The members of the Gould Piano Trio perform wordless music inspired by Shakespeare, from composers Schumann, Korngold and Beethoven.

Will-they-won’t-they lovers Beatrice and Benedict and the three Witches from Macbeth all find voice in these three instrumental chamber pieces for piano, violin and cello.

In the first concert in a four-part series of BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts celebrating Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary, the renowned Gould Piano Trio reveal how the great man’s words can shape what appears at first to be purely instrumental music. ‘Trio playing at its best’ (The Strad).
