Part of the 2016/17 season
'When I hear his music it is as though I am doing a good deed, and the longer I live, the more I love him. No one other than he has made me weep, tremble with joy from recognition of the closeness to something which we call the ideal.'
Tchaikovsky was one of the great Romantics, yet he revered Mozart’s music above all others, not only relishing it for its clarity and beauty, but also associating it in his mind with a lost, golden age of elegance and manners. In four wide-ranging concerts, ten talented musicians explore this obsession in songs, piano trios, string quartets and piano music – including the Mozart pieces Tchaikovsky used in his Fourth Orchestral Suite.
