Featuring musicians from the Guildhall school, we will explore a range of music that influenced Steve Reich, including Jazz, Stravinsky and African drumming; and we’ll find out exactly how one of his minimalist masterpieces works with the help of the Guildhall percussion department with saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes. Works include Steve Reich's Nagoya Marimbas and Drumming Part 1, and two numbers by John Coltrane; Countdown and Mr Day.

These concerts offer an informal introduction to the LSO and the world of music-making. Our presenter Rachel Leach talks about the works and the instruments, and there are opportunities to ask questions of Rachel and the musicians.

Each concert begins at 12.30pm and lasts for 45 minutes. The Café is open for light refreshments before the concert from 11.30am and after the concert until 2pm.

This concert features musicians from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama performing music influenced by Steve Reich.
