Julian Anderson’s violin concerto (premiered in March 2015) is one of the most important works for violin written in recent years. Hailed by The Telegraph as being ‘as ingenious as it was entrancing’, this will be only the seventh performance of the piece – for which the orchestra will be joined by up-and-coming soloist Martyn Jackson, the new first violin in the Allegri Quartet and regular guest co-leader of the LSO – and is aptly paired with Sibelius’ Tapiola, an eerily evocative Nordic tone poem which describes ‘dark forests that dream wild dreams, forever secret’.

The Melos Sinfonia is an energetic orchestra based in London which, through ambitious programming and enterprising projects, provides talented young musicians with the invaluable performing experience and exposure necessary to establish a successful career in the arts. Players are drawn from current students and recent graduates of the major conservatoires and universities across the UK, as well as from orchestras such as the European Union Youth Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Britten-Pears Orchestra and the Southbank Sinfonia.
