STRAVINSKY The Firebird
Elim Chan conductor
Rachel Leach presenter
London Symphony Orchestra
The Evil Tsar has turned twelve princesses into stone, and only Prince Ivan and his friend the Firebird can set them free! This Russian folk story about a magical bird was transformed into a ballet by Stravinsky in the early 1900s, and with the help of our presenter Rachel Leach and conductor Elim Chan we’ll be bringing the story and characters back to life with Stravinsky’s music played by the London Symphony Orchestra.
There are various exciting workshops in the Barbican foyers which take place during the morning of and just before each concert. These differ for each concert but you’ll always get the opportunity to meet LSO players and take part in musical activities. Bring your instrument if you have one!
We also provide a crèche for use during the concert for younger siblings. Those with children under the age of 7 are encouraged to use the crèche, and must book places in advance.
10.30am–12.45pm, main foyers
Get into the spirit for the afternoon performance with morning workshops themed around the concert.
Join professional musicians in this creative music-making workshop. Together we’ll create our own composition, inspired by the vivid and exciting music in Stravinsky’s The Firebird. If you play an instrument bring it along, or if not, take part using our percussion.
In this hands-on workshop, you will create your own mask and tote bag including folk art patterns and designs inspired by the Firebird. Our experienced artist will guide you through the process with hints and tips to help along the way.
