Open Ear presents music from the leading edge of the UK’s contemporary scene. Alternative, experimental and hosted in-the-round by Sara Mohr-Pietsch.
Switching between separate stages in LSO St Luke’s, hear music from the rich and varied sound-worlds of contemporary classical, folk, experimental and minimalist music.
Jack Sheen, member of two LSO composer schemes, directs An assembly in the UK premiere of Linda Catlin Smith’s contemporary exploration of the baroque dance form, Sarabande alongside James Weeks’ work on 17th Century realist Dutch paintings, Saenredam and Jürg Frey's hypnotically abstract Circular Music No 2.
We also delve into the avant-folk of You are Wolf (aka Kerry Andrew) as she fuses traditional material with the stylings of contemporary classical and leftfield pop, and hear from experimental Swiss percussionist Serge Vuille, before organist James McVinnie performs two works by minimalist composer Philip Glass.
