Music is for everybody. That’s the message from Marin Alsop, who hosts this special family concert to celebrate Bernstein’s centenary.
Bernstein was the person who made Marin Alsop want to stand on the conductor’s podium. ‘Leonard Bernstein was a thinker, teacher, author, television star, provocateur, humanitarian – and he was my hero. Seeing Bernstein conduct a New York Philharmonic Young People’s Concert when I was nine years old convinced me that conducting was the only thing in the world that I wanted to do.’
So whether you have a budding young baton-waver of your own or just want to bring the whole family to experience the LSO, this concert is for you! With music by the man himself, and a world-class conductor leading the way, celebrate 100 years of Leonard Bernstein at this autumn’s LSO Discovery Family Concert.
LSO Discovery Family Concerts give families the opportunity to experience a world-class orchestra up-close, and learn more about the music we play.
Featuring excerpts from some of the most popular pieces in the repertoire, and often accompanied by a presenter to guide the audience through what you’ll be hearing, these concerts are the perfect way to introduce your children to the world of classical music.
They’re only an hour long and you’ll always have the chance to join in (no more sitting in silence!), whether during the concert itself or at the interactive workshops and masterclasses available throughout the foyers. You might even get the chance to meet the LSO musicians themselves!
This is a fun day out for all the family, and we make sure that everyone is looked after, has a great time and most of all enjoys the music!
Get into the spirit of the concert with our fun interactive activities in the Barbican Foyers. These free drop-in sessions begin from 12pm.
