Nikolaj Znaider conductor / violin
London Symphony Orchestra

Nikolaj Znaider takes on the roles of both conductor and soloist to explore the compelling links between Mozart and Tchaikovsky.

These two composers were born into different musical worlds, but despite their unique voices – the elegance and grace of Mozart, the tempestuous drama of Tchaikovsky – there are intriguing links between them. In fact, Tchaikovsky revered the beauty of his predecessor's music so much that he described Mozart as a 'musical Christ'.

Nikolaj Znaider has chosen to explore these links with the LSO in a multi-season project. ‘There’s something that unites their music,’ he says, ‘a feeling of drama, of a story unfolding’. Here, he takes the solo role in Mozart’s Second and Third Violin Concertos, characteristically elegant and uplifting, before stepping onto the conductor’s podium for Tchaikovsky’s final symphonic outpouring.
