Szymanowski’s First Violin Concerto – performed by Janine Jansen, renowned for her interpretations of the piece – is a delicate work inspired by Ravel and Debussy and the ethereal goddesses of Tadeusz Miciński’s poetry. Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony concludes the programme, a work infused with legend, which paints pictures of the magical forests and swan song of his native Finland.
