Come and spend the day getting to know Beethoven’s oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives with the LSO's Choral Director Simon Halsey.

This overlooked masterpiece includes some of Beethoven’s most theatrical writing for choir and soloists, following in the footsteps of Handel's Messiah and Bach's Passions and telling the story of Jesus' betrayal.
As well as playing the role of a chorus who reflect on the story as it unfolds, the choir takes on the voices of Jesus’ disciples, a group of soldiers, and the angry crowd.
The music is at times simple and beautiful, at others chromatic and frustrated, ending with a rousing finale that is Beethoven’s answer to the Hallelujah Chorus.
Whether you sing in a local choir, or haven’t sung since school, this is an opportunity to try something new or rediscover your hobby.
The day will be accompanied by Ben Frost (piano). We’ll be singing from the score – experience reading music and some knowledge of sight-singing will help!
