Come and spend the day getting to know the choral movement that concludes Mahler’s monumental ‘Resurrection’ Symphony with the LSO's Choral Director Simon Halsey.
Beethoven’s Ninth really explodes when the singing starts, and as Mahler wrote his Second Symphony – over 70 years later – he decided to bring out the big guns with a choral finale. Nicknamed ‘Resurrection’, the work culminates as the choir sing a poignant prayer penned by Mahler himself about death and his hopes for the afterlife. You'll learn the proper pronunciation for singing German in a choir, and the meaning behind the text.
Whether you sing in a local choir, or haven’t sung since school, this is an opportunity to try something new or rediscover your hobby.
The day will be accompanied by piano. We’ll be singing from the score – experience reading music and some knowledge of sight-singing will help!
