LSO Spring Concerts Update
We are finalising our plans for the Spring term, in light of the latest restrictions. Full programme and booking details for our revised concerts will be announced on Tuesday 8 December.

Gershwin, Copland, Barber and Weill: four faces of the American dream, performed with John Wilson’s inimitable energy and flair.

Everyone knows that no one – but no one – conducts Gershwin with more verve and style than John Wilson. But today, he explores an America beyond Catfish Row, and joins the outstanding Canadian violinist James Ehnes in the wry, restless concerto that Kurt Weill wrote even before his exile in America.

It’s the sound of an utterly individual voice, truly dancing on the edge of the volcano, and James Ehnes is ideally equipped to capture both its eloquence and its bite. But then, all the music in this concert has a big personality, from Samuel Barber’s glistening art deco overture to Copland’s muscular Symphonic Ode: a sky-punching, plain-speaking manifesto for orchestra, conducted today by a man who understands exactly what Copland wants to say, and exactly how to say it.
