Celebrating one of the most enigmatic musicians of the 20th century: Percy Aldridge Grainger.

Percy Aldridge Grainger remains a fascinating enigma. His music fits no ordinary categories, is written for outrageously daring combinations of instruments, and yet is possessed of deep and unexpected poetry. His life was as colourful and unpredictable as his compositions. In this show, the LSO journey through the landscape of Grainger’s mind and imagination, narrated by Roger Allam.

From the wealth of documentation produced during his lifetime, creative director Gerard McBurney and visual artist Amelia Kosminsky bring this marvellous one-off composer alive, as the LSO celebrates his exuberant and pioneering music.

Recorded at LSO St Luke's on Wednesday 28 April in COVID-secure conditions.

Change of conductor

Unfortunately Sir Simon Rattle is unable to conduct this concert. The LSO is grateful to Lee Reynolds for stepping in to conduct at short notice.
