Film, field recordings and violin loudspeakers inspire an exploration of real and imaginary environments in this multimedia concert of works considering the complex relationship between humans, sounds and ecology.

Descend through the deep sea to the Mariana Trench in Leo Chadburn’s Five Loops for the Bathyscaphe. Explore the interplay between piano and environmental sound in Joanna Bailie’s Artificial Environments. Experience the twin worlds of violins and birds, brought together in the UK premiere of Carola Bauckholt’s Doppelbelichtung (Double Exposure), and be transported to Alaskan landscapes evoked by the works of eco-political composers Matthew Burtner and John Luther Adams.

Composer and curator Hollie Harding will also present the world premiere of FERAL, an audio-visual piece based on the book Feral: Rewilding the Land, Sea, and Human Life by George Monbiot, and created in collaboration with choreographer and director Josh Ben-Tovim. The piece explores themes of rewilding, ecological crisis and human connection with the natural world.

How are seats at LSO St Luke's arranged?

The majority of our seats are no longer socially-distanced, however some rows of seats in the stalls remain configured in socially-distanced singles and pairs. All seats are unallocated – you are free to sit wherever you wish in the stalls (distanced or non-distanced) or the balcony. 

What other safety measures are in place once inside?

  • Staff and audience members are encouraged to wear a face covering inside LSO St Luke's at all times unless exempt.
  • The hall and each seat will be cleaned between performances.
  • Hand sanitising stations are positioned at the entrance and around the building.
  • Programme notes are digital and donation points use contactless technology.
  • An official NHS QR code poster is displayed at the entrance to the venue, so visitors can 'check in' on the NHS Test & Trace app.
  • Audience members are asked not to arrive earlier than 30 minutes before concerts.

What if I or someone I know develops Coronavirus symptoms before the concert?

Please stay at home if you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19 or if you’ve recently been in contact with someone who has the virus.

LSO Jerwood Composer+ supports early career composers in programming, planning and delivering chamber-scale concerts in the Jerwood Hall at LSO St Luke’s, including work of their own developed through the scheme.

About Hollie Harding

Hollie is a composer, researcher and curator and has been Director of Production for the London Ear Festival since it began in 2013. Her most recent project Melting, Shifting, Liquid World was the first composition to incorporate the use of open-ear, bone-conduction headsets alongside live acoustic and amplified instruments to create a multi-layered sonic environment for the audience to move around and within. Hollie has worked with Alwynne Pritchard, Sjøforsvarets Musikkorps (Norwegian Navy Band), London Philharmonic Orchestra, CHROMA ensemble, Castallian String Quartet, Ensemble Via Nova (Weimar) and DeciBells (Basel). Current projects include a Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize Commission and a new participatory immersive piece for CoMA.
